2016年10月，加拿大多伦多基础教育发展交流协会负责对外交流事务的理事 Brian Liu 先生，与多伦多教育局（TDSB）继续教育及国际部主任 Awara Omar 先生一起，至中国上海和山东济南、淄博、青岛等地，与当地教育主管部门负责人会面，至相关学校进行了参观和座谈。
双方就开启中加在基础教育领域的交流与合作进行了广泛深入的洽谈，特别是通过中加“友好学校”的设立和共建，开展教育主管部门、校长、教师和学生等不同层面的友好交流，双方均表达了浓厚的兴趣。希望在此次会面建立信任和达成共识的基础之上，发挥各自在基础教育领域的优势与特色，共同推进具体交流项目的实施，为深入开展合作打下良好基础。

加拿大多伦多基础教育发展交流协会是在加拿大联邦政府正式注册的一个非政治、非宗教、非党派、非牟利性组织，以关注和促进中加两国在基础教育领域的发展与交流为己任。协会聚集中加两国基础教育领域的专家学者和专业人士，积极探索、拓宽渠道，增进两国在基础教育领域的交流与发展。
In October, 2016, Mr. Brian Liu, Director of International Affairs of TFEDEA, together with Mr. Awara Omar, Manager of Continuing and International Education at TDSB, attended meetings with officials of Shanghai City, Jinan, Zibo and Qingdao City of Shandong Province and paid visits to potential partner schools in China.
They held extensive and far-ranging discussions regarding the field of fundamental education. Both have shown interest in the friendly exchanges of administrators of educational department, principals, teaching staff and students with the founding and establishment of “sister schools”. It is hoped that with the solid foundation built on trust and consensus, the relevant parties from two countries can give full play to their advantages in fundamental education, organize more exchange programs and jointly push forward for deeper cooperation and development.

Toronto Fundamental Education Development and Exchange Association (TFEDEA) is officially registered with the federal government of Canada. It is a nonpolitical, nonpartisan and not-for-profit organization. It focuses on and strives to promote the development of and communication between the fundamental education sectors of China and Canada. The association invites educational professionals, scholars and educators to actively explore and broaden the channel of communication to jointly promote the information sharing and development of fundamental education in the two countries.
